Notes from Dave.... I'd like to keep this page updated so that I can keep up with all of you who visit the site and come to the shows. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me.
November 2006
Another year come and gone. Incredible how fast time is buzzing by. Spent a lot of time on the lake in Kentucky trying to catch fish this year. Caught quite a few Catfish jug fishing at night but other than that, fishin was lousy. Took a couple of trips on the bike this last year. Short trip to Fall Creek Falls here in middle Tennessee and a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg. Lots of fun. Also took a quick ride to Dauphin Island for my Uncle Gene's wedding. Our biggest ride of this year was the Maryland Delaware Hog Rally in Wisp Maryland. What a great time. Too many people to thank but they all know who they are.
I've
been getting a number of orders and a renewed interest in my work. I am in the
process of adding an updated inventory to the site so anyone who is wanting to
add to their collection can take a quick look at what I have in stock. I don't
plan on putting any of my work back into production so this is it. I may at some
point offer some of the masters from some of my work. If you are still wanting
to add to your collection now is the time.
I
have been setting up my workshop to include tools to get back to original
carvings. Still haven't sat down and actually accomplished anything but I am a
step closer. I've really been enjoying the studio, and building trucks. I still
have the 53 and I sold the 52. Hated to see it go. I have added a big yellow 59
Chevy Apache to the driveway as well as a 64 4 door hardtop Impala. Wanting to
do more and more with the old trucks. Love working on them. My father in law has
a very rare 1944 Ford 1 ton that I'll be putting together this winter. Have to
get all the pieces of the 59 back together first.
As always, time is short. Never hesitate to tell the ones you love that you love them. Enjoy life. Help someone who might not deserve it but really needs it. If you don't, probably won't be anyone else to.
December 2005

I know a lot of you are still waiting on my new ornament. Doesn't look like it will be this year either. I don't have the facilities or the ambition to do the casting and so far I haven't found anywhere to have the casting done except overseas. I haven't given up. I will let everyone know if this comes to a workable place for me.
Meantime....... we have been riding the bike a lot. Took a
trip this last August to Niagara Falls and on up into Canada. All in all it was
a 2300 mile trip. Had a wonderful time with friends and family. Met up with a
lot of folks on the way up and back. Stopped by the
Flight 93 Memorial.
If you haven't been there I
would suggest it. Redefines your definition of Hero. It did mine anyway.

Love my 53 Chevy. Drive it to work everyday... o yea... I do work. I have a sound studio in Seymour Tennessee and I do On Hold Messages, Music editing for competition as well as other things.
Visit my site at Audio Marketing Technologies. Staying busy, Last year was full of fun travel and work in that order. Still hear from a number of you every now and then. Always enjoy it. I don't miss doing the shows but I do miss all the friends I've made along the way. I'm glad that I'm still a little part of your lives and Christmas with a part of me hanging on the tree or on the wall. I still may end up sculpting again. I think I have to want to do it before I can go there again.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas. Please tell the ones you love how you feel. Be good to all the children even if they are spoiled rotten little brats. Enjoy everyday. Stop and take a deep breath and remember how blessed you are.

December 9, 2004
Ok,
been a long time since I left any notes so a lot of you probably won't be
stopping by anymore. I've been very busy with my new business
Audio Marketing Technologies.
I really enjoy the work and my time has been divided so thin that some things
have been let go for now. For instance, the ornament that everyone has been
waiting on. My daughter is now a Sophomore and my
stepson is now a Freshman. She dances and he wrestles so you can guess what our
schedule is like. About a month ago my wife Rebecca which many of you know and
have met, fell through the attic head first into the garage onto the concrete.
It left her with 7 broken ribs, her back broke in 5
places, a collapsed lung and lots of bruises, aches
and pains. She will recover completely but will take awhile.
This last summer we got all the riding in we could. Met with friends and made trips to Snowshoe WV, Chattanooga TN, Bardstown KY, Mayberry RFD, Myrtle Beach, and a number of day and overnight rides. We love it and are having a ball. Looking forward to a number of planned trips this coming year.
We've lost a number of loved ones in our lives in the last couple of years. Please, tell the ones you love that you love them everyday and don't waste a minute of this life with regret, guilt or remorse. Move on and enjoy each and everyday like it is your last.
Please remember this Holiday season that there is someone, a child out there that can use a coat, or a pair of shoes. There is someone out there that you know that could use a pat on the back or a simple phone call to see how they are doing. As a matter of fact, it has nothing to do with the Holidays, it has to do with everyday life. Help those that you can. Children are always deserving of your love, guidance, and help. Please keep all these folks in mind when your are enjoying your blessings. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and find happiness in everyday.

Ride hard and enjoy the scenery.
May 14th, 2003
Been awhile since I've updated everyone. So sorry. Busy time this year. For
those of you who frequent my workshop and showroom, it no longer is there. I'm
leasing the building and won't be there anymore. I'll be working from a shop at
my home which I'm in the process of planning and building. All sales will be
through mail order so get on my mailing list for updated information. Times they
are a changing.
I've had three friends loose the lives of their children this last year. My heart goes out to each of them. There are no words of comfort or acts of kindness that can take away the pain a parent feels when they loose a child, and we are loosing too many of them these days. I only hope that my condolences and the pain in my heart can some how smooth the hurt in the days ahead for all those that loved those we lost.
Been a busy year this year with just too much to tell. Life is good. Taking advantage of everyday. Hope that it's good for all of you. Ride hard and enjoy the scenery.
October 9th, 2002
Just got home from Timonium MD. Nice to see you all up there again. It's
been about 6 years since I've done this show. Our hearts and prayers go out to
the families and friends that lost loved ones during the shootings. There isn't
much more that can be said. It's a sad day for all of us when something like
this enters our lives.
Sorry I missed so many of my friends at St. James in Louisville KY. I wasn't excepted in the show this year. I guess 18 years is long enough. They must of got tired of lookin at this mug of mine. All you Santa collectors will have to mail order this year. Order early. I'm slow at this.
September 18th, 2002
The Santa 2002 will begin production next week. I will have them for the
Timonium show. This will be the last year for the Santa Series Ornaments. Next
year I'll be starting the Spirit of Christmas Series of Ornaments. I will be
doing a major revamp of the website after Christmas giving a list of available
stock in the Santa Ornaments and in the Wood Spirits. I won't be doing anymore
shows after this year and everything will be thru my mailing list, mail order,
and the website so if your not on my
mailing list, please do so or
you may not get any info through the mail. If you got a Santa card last year you
are on the mailing list. If you didn't, then you need to
send me your mailing information so I
can keep up with you. Times they are a changin. I hope to keep up with you all
with my new works but I'll need your help. See ya........ d

A lot has happened since my last update. I finally tied the knot on the 20th
of April. What was she thinking??? Everybody congratulates me and just looks at
her and shakes their heads. What's up with that??? Anyway, we took the Harley
down to Alligator Point where our dear friends Dot and Larry gave
us their house on the bay for a week. We then road the bike up and down Highway
98 all the way to Pensacola. Stayed a week in Panama City thanks to my
brother Marty and his wife Sue. Ate Apalachicola Bay Oysters till
they said I had to quit. If your down that way you have to stop by the Fish
House in Mexico Beach and order all the Seafood Chowder you can hold. Came
home long enough to pack for a bike trip to Bar Harbor in Maine. A ten
day adventure on the road thru the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains,
the excitement of the Laconia Rally, thru the rain and cold of New Hampshire and
Maine, and back thru the Pocono Mountains. A 2500 mile trip and all the lobster
you could eat. There isn't enough room on the website to tell you about all the
fun we had. We rode with four other couples. Moon and Lucy, Steve and Vickie
( No Smell Man and his sidekick), Bryant and Donna, and bringing up the
rear...... Jimmy and Diane. What a great time with a bunch of great people!
Next was a trip to Missouri and the Current River for the 4th of July to float
the day away in some of Gods country. Got to spend some time with my new family.
They all just shake their heads when they look at Rebecca. What's up with that?
Spent the last week on Lake Norris and caught another one of those great
big Catfish. Now I'm planning on the fall shows. Looks like I won't be at the St.
James Art Fair in Louisville or the Harvest Homecoming in New Albany
Indiana. I will be in Timonium in October and the Maryland Christmas
show in Frederick. I'll end it all with the December Gaithersburg Show.
What a whirlwind. Life is good.
March 25th, 2002
Well the winter is almost over and I'm glad to see Spring. Have a full
schedule planned for most of the summer. For those of you that don't know, there
is a wedding in April and I'm in it. Been building onto the house and riding on
days it's warm enough. I won't be making the St. James Show in Louisville this
year. Probably try to do Timonium Maryland instead. Hope you all have a great
Spring. The Bradford Pear Trees are blooming here and you can smell Spring in
the air. I've even seen a few yards mowed but I'm gonna wait until the last
minute. I'll be posting a show schedule as soon as I know what shows I'm
doing for sure. The best way to keep in touch is thru the site. I'll be
marketing more and more thru the web site as time goes on. Time to put away the
winter stuff and get out the summer stuff. Let's get with it........
January 1rst, 2002
I can't believe another year has gone by. Thanks to all of you for a
successful show season. The mail order is growing by leaps and bounds so if you
want to keep in contact, it may be a good idea to get on the mailing list. I'm
already planning a big year next year. There has been so much going on this last
year it's been hard keeping up with it all. What a ride. Just got back from a
trip to Missouri for Christmas. Looks like a trip to West Virginia in February
and the summer already has its sights on Maine. Life is too short to waste
folks. Get out there and live it. Enjoy every sunrise and soak in every sunset.
Tell the people you love that you love them and don't sweat the small stuff. And
when it gets really tough..... go fishin. I'm a truly blessed man. I know it and am in constant appreciation
of it. Happy New Year!
Wow! So much has happened since June. The Manassas show in September reminded me of how many of my customers are friends, and have been supporting me for over 18 years. Thanks to you all. The weather was great and I enjoyed the show. I did end up with a few new pieces this year. I'll be getting them on the website soon. Thursday after setup my cousin Steve let me borrow his Bad Boy and we all rode up to Harrison's Crab House just across the Chesapeake Bay bridge. The sun going down when we left was like a post card. Incredible! We stayed a couple extra days after the show and rode the Harleys to Seven Springs Ski Resort. Went thru Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and into Pennsylvania. What a beautiful ride. The trip back was on the 11th and very solemn. A day to reflect on how lucky I am to have the friends I have and family in my life safe and sound. My heart goes out to all the victims of that day, their family and friends. Next was a trip to Louisville Kentucky and the St. James Art Fair. Again, so many who come by are friends that have become closer and closer over the years with us watching each others kids grow up. We left Louisville and went the next weekend to Gaithersburg Maryland for a new Sugarloaf show. Stayed with Cousin Moon and Lucy. I don't know what the deal is but for some reason my family seems to like me. Moon let us borrow his Ultra Classic one evening and we enjoyed a beautiful Maryland countryside ride, then let us loose in his 62 Corvette convertible on Friday night. Geeeeze what a ride. Thanks again for everything Moon and Lucy. No way to pay back the kind of friendship I have enjoyed. Next show won't be until Thanksgiving weekend in Frederick Maryland. Hope to see some of you then.
June 22nd, 2001
Ok, I got the Harley without your help. That's ok, I understand that we all
have our priorities and that me havin a Harley wasn't one of yours. Now this
does mean I'm gonna have to do some great designs and lots of shows this fall to
make up for it. Picked the bike up at Harley Davidson of Annapolis,
thanks to Jimmy (thanks Jimmy) and put my break in miles on it in the
Shenandoah Valley with my cousins and friends. What a beautiful ride. Have put
another 2500 miles on it in these Mountains of Tennessee. Had a great ride with Steve,
Vicki, Bryant, and Donna. Thanks for the great weekend and thanks Rebecca
for keepin the seat warm on the back. If you all haven't seen the Blue
Ridge Parkway in NC South of Ashville in the Spring, put it on your list of
things to do. May 19th brought a new baby boy into the world for Shan,
welcome Grady and congratulations Shan. Lots of love to both of you.
Happy birthday Brenda..... I'm not tellin.
Have a new show with Sugarloaf in Gaithersburg on October 12, 13, and 14th. I'm really hoping to have some original carvings for these shows, but they seem to go really fast when I have them so don't wait if you see one you like. Don't have the Santa done yet. Don't even have a clue what he'll be this year. So unlike me. Maybe you all can e-mail me some ideas. I'll let you know as soon as he is available. Make sure and check my new show schedule. I won't be doing the Harvest Homecoming in New Albany this year so all you folks in the Louisville / New Albany area will need to pick your things up at the St. James Show.
Don't forget I do have my real estate license now for the East Tennessee area, so if any of you are looking for vacation property or a new place to live, give me a call. I love findin houses for people.
Haven't sold the shop yet, but it's more of a workshop than a showroom so if you stop by and happen to catch me there, it will be a mess. Expect it.
You wouldn't believe the size of my maters in my garden. You can see em grow. I'm having a fantastic Summer....... hope you all are too!
March 14th, 2001
Well I'm sorry but nothing exciting to report. I'm selling the workshop and
going to be working from a studio out of my home. I think this is going to work
out much better for me. Plan on getting out of doing the casting myself. I do
plan on some original clays and wood, and a limited number of castings, but I'll
have them cast. I will probably still cast the Santa's. The Harley fund was a
real flop. Actually I didn't get one donation. Geeeeeze. But there is
still hope on the horizon. Not gonna tell how I do it, but if I get it I'm gonna
be showin it to you. Good to hear from you Shan. Long time no see. I've
been a real home body this year. The older I get the more I want to be at home.
Hey Brendooodle..... you go girl go. I'll talk to you all later when I have
more exciting things to tell ya. Happy St. Paddy's
Day!!!!!!!
December 15th, 2000
Well I'm home again. Three weekends in Maryland have done me in. Actually I
enjoy the visit, I always get to spend time with cousins, and Aunts and cousin
Aunts. That ones a little tough to explain. I did get that ride in Moon's 62
Vette. Had a great Thanksgiving dinner with my cousin Denise and her
hubby. Saw lots of friends and made a few new ones. The weather was like it's
suppose to be in November and December, cold. Thanks again to Steve for
the use of his Bad Boy, and Vic for puttin up with me as well as Moon
and Lucy. I still think Toto is a silly name for a cat and
she is the one that ate all the ice cream. I swear. You folks at the
Gaithersburg show actually consumed 6 pounds of M&Ms with out any help from
me. Missed you Pap.
I have contracted a disease called Harley fever. The only known cure is to park a Harley with your name on the title and registration, in your garage. Now considering the fact that I don't have enough money to pay for the Harley I ordered from my good friends in Annapolis, I'm going to start a "Lets help Dave get better fund". Now there will be different levels of sponsorship in this program. A $1 to $25 donation will get you a nicely written but sincere form letter thanking you for your help. Between $50 dollars and $100 dollars will get you an authentic genuinely written thank you letter signed by me. From $100 dollars up to $500 will get you a picture, autographed of course, of me sitting on my new Harley, providing this fund raiser is successful. Anything over a $500 dollar donation will get you a ride on the back of the bike with me for at least 30 minutes if you happen to be in town and the weather is good. I want to thank you all ahead of time for your cooperation. Just send the money in a plain envelope addressed to "Help Dave get Better" 1909 Douglas Dam Road, Sevierville, TN 37876.
I will not be doing as many shows next year. Please get on the email or snail mail list if you want to keep in contact with me and my work. I'm going to go into somewhat of a hermit mode and have a lot of neat things in mind, but I will not be offering the unlimited castings after what I have in stock is gone. All castings will be created on a very limited basis other than the Santa's. I hope to be offering many more originals than before. I plan on displaying my new work through the internet on my web site, so..... please, don't hesitate to get the pieces you are wanting now, because I won't be casting any more of the designs I have in production now. I'm about finished with all the mail orders, hope you all get them before Christmas.
Now I'm ready to enjoy some time with my daughter and watch Christmas Vacation and Home Alone a few dozen times. Merry Christmas to you all. I wish you love and peace. Thanks for your support and friendship.
October 17th, 2000
The St. James Art Show turned winter on
us this year reaching record lows by Sunday. The turnout was still incredible
despite the cold temperatures. If you ever get the chance to go to this show, or
visit St. James court, I would encourage you to do so. The architectural design
of the homes in this area is just something you have to see. The art show helps
in funding restorations and upkeep of this area. Saint James is always a
pleasure with lots of friends and family around. I stay with my Mother while
doing this and the New Albany Homecoming shows. I always put on at least 10
pounds from Mom's cookin and the Pork Chop Sandwiches at the Homecoming. The
weather was perfect for the New Albany show with the beautiful Fall foliage, the
Ohio River in the background, and the Louisville skyline. Thanks to Tim
for the guitar lessons. Happy birthday Dan, I love ya man. Rick,
is it me, or are you nuts. Vincent, you might want to think twice before
you grow up to be JUST like your Dad. Thanks ol Man and Ernesto
for the help in setting up at St. James. Glad to get these two shows behind me.
The drive back to Tennessee was incredible with the colors in full force.
Next stop, Maryland.
September 15th, 2000
Thanks to all of you for your support at
the Manassas Virginia show. It was great. I realized on Friday almost everyone
who came to my booth has become a friend over the last 18 years of doing that
show. Thanks to Barry, Terre and Bari for a wonderful dinner Saturday
night. The food was surpassed only by the company. And Bari, I called you
a little girl, not a little squirrel. Funny how sometimes friendships just
seem to happen. A few of you are going to have to cut down on the M&M
consumption, it seems to be cutting drastically into my profit margin at the
shows. Thanks to Kelly, who almost has every one of the Woodspirits now.
I met some new friends, and visited with established friends (I like to call
them established instead of old, makes em feel better). Looking forward to the
Christmas shows. Hope to have a surprise or two by then. Steve, thanks
for letting me borrow the Harley. Vic, thanks for puttin up with me for a
few days. As always, I enjoyed the visit, even though it was short. Moon and Lucy,
see ya Thanksgiving, I want a ride in the new vette. Missed you Pap.

August 25th, 2000 I have slowed way down this year. I have taken up some new interests and have been trying to get myself into a more artistic frame of mind by removing myself from my work. I hope this won't be a disappointment to you all, and hopefully will result in a new direction for me. I have lost some dear friends this year. Pappy, who a lot of you may know from the shows, passed away this winter. He has been doing the shows with me since 1982 and I will miss him sitting there next to me this coming season. His wife's passing never left his heart, and I'm sure he is much happier to be by her side. Charlie Cardwell, an incredible bird carver and even more incredible person, has been taken from all those that loved him by cancer. I can't say he lost his battle, he never gave up, cancer being just one of the many battles he faced with courage and even enthusiasm, never compromising his character. And just recently, Harry Stockard. One of the last good ol boys and one of my biggest fans in my guitar pickin days. He's been waitin a long time to scratch that ol dog of his on the head again. You all will be dearly missed. |
I have my music studio set back up and am planning on putting together some music in the future. I feel like it's time to get back to my music somewhat. Blues guitar is my direction right now. Who knows, maybe I'll have a CD to sell one day.
I'm doing all of my own production this year. I can't produce as much as I use too. I do plan on doing some bark carving for the shows and have some wonderful pieces to work with. I'm looking forward to sharing them with you. Take note, they will be fewer and further between. I have designed and am hosting a web page called Lineweb.com. There is plenty of room for advertising and links if any of you are interested. It's a great place to keep up with what's happening here in East Tennessee. I'm offering some free advertising for a short while, so drop me a line if you are interested. I've also obtained my Real Estate license. Any or you looking for property in the East Tennessee area, give me a call. I have access to anything and everything related to real estate for sale here. If you would like me to keep in direct contact with you about any new work, please fill out my email order form. I'll be glad to keep in touch. I feel that even though there has been a lull in my work and inspiration this year, the best is still yet to come. As always, I love to hear from you all.....................
A Special Thank You..... to You, My Customers
Thank
you all so much for your support of my art and I want you all to know that I
have never taken any of you for granted and appreciate you all very much. A
special thank you for those of you who come by the shop to say hi, even though
I'm not there half the time, you still make a point of coming by. You all are
great. Thank you........................
Dave Maggard
